Mr. Winfred "Wint" Doughton Lawrence, Sr., age 81 of Elkin passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Lawrence was born July 17, 1929 in Surry County to John Wesley and Samantha Emmaline Dodson Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was a loving husband and father and was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and was an avid golfer, bird hunter, and loved gardening and nature. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Everette Simmons.
Survivors include: his wife Joyce Asby Lawrence of the home, five children Cecil Lawrence and his wife Margaret of Elkin, Debbie Hege and husband Danny of Newport Ritchey, FL., Donna Lyon and husband Perry of Ronda, Winfred Doughton Lawrence, Jr., of Chicago, and Barry Lawrence of Elkin, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Welcome Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Jenkins officiating. The burial will follow in Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Dr. Tony Canupp and the staff of Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine, the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, and the staff of the 5th floor cardiovascular unit at Forsyth Medical Center.
